Arcadia, the mythological land of perennial perfection, was a dream world sought by many in the often coarse and materialistic Gilded Age. Vonnoh's speciality was small sculpture, intimate and intended for contemplation in the home. Critics described her work as attaining “grace, distinction, and simple beauty.”
