Exhibitions Office

Painting by Kenneth Nolan

The Exhibitions Office is responsible for the appearance of all public spaces in the Smithsonian American Art Museum and its Renwick Gallery. The staff includes designers and production specialists who work together to present artworks and interpretive materials in a manner that will be pleasing and informative for all audiences. Designers plan exhibit spaces, design pedestals and furniture, create graphics, select paint colors, fabrics, and light objects. Highly skilled production specialists oversee construction, build cases and pedestals, produce graphics, and mat and frame artwork. Designers and production specialists work together to install exhibits, ensuring that each art object is installed to look its best and that every exhibit opens on time.

The Exhibitions Office works closely with other offices such as the Curatorial Office and Education Office as well as the Conservation Lab to create exhibit spaces that best reflect the content of each exhibition, engage the visitors, and display the art in ways that will protect it for future generations to enjoy.

For further information about the Exhibitions Office, contact Christal Jackson at JacksonC@si.edu.
