Enjoy time in the galleries with a museum educator for your next professional development! Designed for classroom teachers, these sessions bring the museum collection to life for use in your classroom. Educational materials and refreshments are provided at each session and all are free of charge.

Obata's Yosemite Enjoy a fun morning in the galleries and leave with an activity to use with your students! In this special exhibition tour, teachers will be introduced to the prints of Asian-American artist Chiura Obata. The one hour program includes a thirty minute activity appropriate for use in the classroom.

The third in this series of workshops featuring different areas of the permanent collection focuses on images of the West. Depictions of pioneers, Native Americans, and western scenes are used to enhance your curriculum. Landscapes, history paintings, and portraiture are featured.

This special Summer Workshop is presented by Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM), the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), and National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS). The two-and-a-half-day workshop will provide a varied program of lectures, demonstrations, and collaboration, along with analysis of documents and artworks in order to introduce teachers to the holdings of the National Archives and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Workshop attendees will participate in and develop classroom activities that utilize both visual images and primary source documents to sharpen students' skills and enthusiasm for history, social studies, and the humanities. The content focus will be on westward expansion and the Civil War.
