Merry A. Foresta is Senior Curator of Photography for the National Museum of American Art and served as coordinator of the Secrets of the Dark Chamber exhibition. She has curated numerous shows for the National Museum of
American Art, including the critically acclaimed "Perpetual Motif: The
Art of Man Ray." She also contributed essays to "Between Home and Heaven: Contemporary American Landscape Photography" , National Museum of American Art in association with the University of New

John Wood is professor of English and director of the Master of Fine Arts Program in
Creative Writing at McNeese State University. HisThe Daguerreotype: A Sesquicentennial Celebration
(Iowa, 1989) won the Photo History Award of the American Photographic Historical Society. His
America and the Daguerreotype (Iowa, 1991) was named one of the outstanding academic books of 1992
byChoice. His essays and poems have appeared in a variety of publications.
