Originally a Bay area folkrock band formed in 1965, Jefferson Airplane's original members were guitarists Marty Balin, Jorma
Kaukonen, Paul Kantner, bass guitarist Bob Harvey, and drummer Jerry
Pelequin. Soon after the group's formation, Harvey was replaced by
Jack Casaday and Pelequin was replaced with Spencer Dryden.
Jefferson Airplane soon developed a more psychedelic style, and added
singer Grace Slick while achieving popular success. Though their earlier
tunes capture the band's evolution into what became representative of the
"San Francisco Sound," their top ten hits "Somebody to Love" and "White
Rabbit" demonstrate the style for which they are known.(Plastic
