And Babies? is an outcry against the brutal slaughter of war. It was first produced during the antiwar movement of the Vietnam years, after the slaying at My Lai. That massacre was the catalyst for a broad-based protest voiced by an underground, alternative, liberal, youth-oriented, and counter-culture media. Despite the refusal of the client museum to pay for the poster as originally planned, the force of the image has marked it as a universal and classic protest against war.
