Cross Streets of New York 1899 Everett Shinn
charcoal, watercolor, pastel, white chalk, and chinese white on paper |
| Originally titled Down Near the Eastern End of the Street, this drawing illustrated an
article in Collier's magazine that took readers on an imaginary tour across the city. Like
many guidebooks and articles published during the first decade of the century, Cross
Streets of New York attempted to decipher the contrasts and odd neighborhood
juxtapositions that characterized New York. |
